In most cases when using ‘User Access’ setting 100% of slides is a good idea so that your learners experience all of the content. This can be a percentage of the slides or a specific number. You can decide how many of your slides need to be accessed in order for a completion to be registered. Here are the options available: User Accessīy simply accessing the course and/or the quiz in a course, a learner can be marked as completed. It ensures that the rules of the course are known by both the xAPI and the LMS, so that reporting is accurate. This sets out what exactly is meant by ‘passing a course’. A target score must be set in the course for this data to be accurately captured and communicated. Scores are sent to the LMS, as well as information on whether the learner has passed or failed the exam. If your course has an exam, choose this one. No scores will be reported back to the LMS. Learners will be marked as complete once they meet the completion criteria. If your xAPI course doesn’t have an exam, choose this option. There are two options to choose from: Incomplete – Complete Essentially, how will the course communicate completion to your LMS. In this context, a status represents the information sent to your LMS around course completion. We have to set-up three elements as part of this process: Choose Tin Can (as we previously mentioned, this is the same as xAPI). ![]() SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, AICC, and Tin Can. LMS: If your LMS is not on the list of options, choose “Other Standard LMSs” Standard: This lists the four most prominent eLearning standards. Next, we have to set our LMS and the eLearning standard. There’s a check box that enables reporting options. Under the “Quiz” header, click on the ‘reporting’ section. Turning on reportingįirst, let’s turn on reporting. ![]() This is where we decide which information we want to be sent to the LMS by the xAPI course. The reporting section is where most of our focus will be. Step 1: Choose PreferencesĬlick on ‘Adobe Captivate’ in the menu and then ‘preferences’. For the purpose of simplicity, let’s use these interchangeably. Note* Adobe still refers to xAPI by its project name, Tin Can. In this article, we walk you through the Adobe Captivate xAPI publishing process. In fact, with Adobe Captivate, the process is pretty much the same as the one to publish SCORM content. Republishing your SCORM content in xAPI is a prudent move to reduce problems that can happen with the older standard.Īnd the good news is – xAPI is easy to create. Even if you don’t have the opportunity to take advantage of the wider functionality that xAPI provides, it’s a better, more stable standard to use than SCORM. When you play this project in either SWF or HTML5 output you will see the slide completion checkmark does NOT appear in the TOC when you first enter the slide, but it does appear as soon as you then leave that slide, either as a result of jumping to another slide or as a result of allowing the slide to play all the way to the end of its timeline. We love xAPI. Add a button to each slide that will jump directly to the next slide when clicked (not just Continue). Turn on the TOC so that all slides are shown. If you want to see when the slide gets marked as complete then all you need to do is set up a quick test project with say three or four slides, labelled so that you can tell which one is currently visible. So Adobe changed the behaviour to what it is now.) (Years ago this behaviour was a little different and slides were marked complete ONLY when their timelines ended, but that caused too many issues with completion percentages when elearning authors were using navigation that jumped to other slides without ending the current slide timeline. So it's not necessary to view the slide all the way to the end of its timeline for it to get marked complete. In current versions of Captivate slides get marked as completed as soon as you have entered and then left the slide or when it reaches the final frame of that slide.
